How to take care of your jewelry

Your jewelry deserves attention and care to maintain its beauty, shine, and integrity over time. By following a few simple tips, you can best preserve it and avoid damage from daily wear and tear or exposure to external agents.

What to avoid

  • Avoid direct contact with perfumes, cosmetics, lotions, detergents and other harsh chemicals
  • Always remove your jewelry before showering, swimming, or visiting humid environments like saunas and spas: chlorine, salt water, and sulfur can damage them.
  • Do not wear your jewelry during physical activity : sweat, impacts and friction can compromise the finish.
  • Avoid sleeping with your jewelry on: you could accidentally damage it.
  • Protect them from extreme temperatures and prolonged exposure to sunlight .

Maintain the shine

Prolonged exposure to air and humidity can cause oxidation or loss of luster, especially in 925 silver or gold-plated jewelry.

To keep them shiny over time:

  • Clean your jewelry with a soft cloth or a jewelry polishing cloth.
  • If they fog up, you can soak them in warm water with neutral soap and clean them gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush .
  • Avoid excessively vigorous movements, especially on plated jewelry , to avoid wearing down the surface finish.

Note: Polishing does not remove scratches or impact marks.

How to store them

Proper storage is essential to avoid damage, oxidation or discoloration:

  • Store your jewelry in a clean, dry place , away from heat and humidity.
  • Use a lined jewelry box , a tarnish-proof bag , or individual airtight plastic bags.
  • Avoid rubber containers, which can accelerate oxidation and tarnish metals.
  • Do not store jewelry in the bathroom or in particularly humid environments.
  • Gift boxes are intended for presentation, not long-term storage .

Important note about gold plating

LUMAR cannot guarantee that the gold plating of its jewelry will remain unchanged over time.

Gold plating, by its very nature, is not permanent. Plated jewelry is generally more delicate and may gradually lose its color over time.

The duration of the plating depends on several factors:

  • skin pH
  • Sweating level
  • Contact with cosmetic products or chemical agents

For this reason, it is essential to treat gold-plated jewelry with care and carefully follow the instructions for proper maintenance, so as to preserve its appearance and brilliance for longer.
